Briefing at your hotel

The tour guide will meet you at your hotel one day before your tour to give you a briefing. They will tell you all about your tour and answer any questions you may have. It is important to us that you ask any questions you may have so the tour guide will get you ready for your amazing tour.

Day 1: CUSCO – CUSIPATA – CHILLIHUANI – LLAQTOPAMPA – VICUÑA PAMPA - RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – RED VALLEY.

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco with our private minivan at 5:00am. Then we’ll drive for 3 hours around to the trailhead called LLAPTO PAMPA (4,100 m / 13,120 ft), and the place where we’ll be driving is called the south valley, along the drive we will appreciate very good views of many of these high Mountains, villages, etc. You should keep awake to enjoy the part of the journey. As soon as we reach the beginning of the hike called the Chilliwani village, our chef will make the first delicious breakfast for you and also this is the place where horses and horsemen will meet us.

After breakfast the horsemen will packed all camping equipment on horses and we’ll begin our hike expedition uphill, following a lovely stream, you will be immediately surprised by the literally herds of alpacas and llamas and we will have consistent views of the Llaqto mountain, Llapto Valley and Ausangate Mountain (6400m/20480ft). After 3 and half hours of hiking uphill, we will reach our lunch spot VICUÑA PAMPA(4800m/15,360ft) nearby the Rainbow Mountain. Our chef will make for you a fantastic buffet lunch when we arrive; our chef also will provide you the incredible coca tea.

After lunch and after great siesta, we will continue hiking up 45 minutes to reach the Rainbow Mountain (5,200 meters / 16,640ft). your tour guide will take you to the best spot with the best angles to take all the photos you want to, and our porter will offer you the coca tea to celebrate with the incredible views on the top. You will be probably the only one on the top of the Rainbow Mountain.

Your tour guide will explain everything about the Mountain, what makes up the existence of the Rainbow Mountain, why the mountains are red or why these mountains were special for our ancestor the Incas? This is due to a composition of various minerals, the area has four major geological features, the Andean uplift formed by Granits, the hanging glaciers and glacial erosional valleys, the Permian formation with its singular colors: red, ochre, blue and turquoise and the Cretaceous, limestone forests. After taking your photos and enjoying the views, you will continue with the journey trek to the Red Valley for 3 more hours until we reach our campsite (gradual downhill). On the way down, we will have amazing views of stunning red mountains (Red Valley), the Ausangate glacier, Surine Mountain and much more, and also you may see the fantastic animals called VICUÑAS. Our campsite is called ALPACA PAMPA 4,400m/14,080ft.

later on, we will enjoy happy hour and dinner. When night falls, we will have a peaceful night´s sleep under the stars. You will watch the Inca constellations and your tour guide will explain about it.

Just in case a horse will go with us if you need it.

Day 2: Vicuña Pampa – Rainbow Mountain – Chillca – Cusco.

Wake up time will be with the incredible Coca tea in your tent like room service at 6:00a.m. Our chef will prepare an amazing breakfast to start our journey to the end of the Trek Llapto Pampa. Right after breakfast we’ll begin hiking gradual downhill for 3 and half hours until we reach the of our hike. On the way down, we will hike through villages and interacting with the local residents. Your tour guide will explain about all their traditions, what they do growing at farming lands, what type of animals they farm, what type of religions they practice, and much more. So that is a fantastic opportunity to learn about their culture.

After taking your photos and enjoying this moment with locals, you will continue with our journey trek to the LLAPTO PAMPA (the end of the trek). After lunch you will say goodbye to your team (chef, porter and horsemen), you can organize some tips for them. And then we will drive back to Cusco about 3 ½ hours, once you arrive back in Cusco City we’ll take you to your hotel(it will be the time you say good bye to you tour guide). While we will drive back to Cusco you will pass through many villages and towns. Arrival time to Cusco is around 6:30p.m.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Hikers should be reasonably fit, and spend some time in Cusco to acclimate, we recommend at least 2 days in Cusco or some similar elevation.

Equipment

Every camping tour includes a spacious 4 man tent that will be shared by only two people so you can spread out a bit. These are all King Camp Tents made for all seasons. Our rentals are top of the line: Inflatable Mattress, Black Diamond Adjustable Walking Sticks . Sleeping Bags rented from us are mummy style down bags for -15C and liners are always included.

Food

Every trek includes a chef that has been trained in culinary school. They have learned the magic of mountain cooking and you will be amazed. You will enjoy full breakfast, lunch and dinner all served hot and tasty. We also include Happy Hour with snacks and some hot tea before dinner. The key to feeling good on a trek like this is eating well and staying hydrated.

Meals are all served family style - large plates for everyone to take what they like. And all food restrictions are honored. No matter if you are vegetarian or gluten free, you will always be well fed.
